To Blog or Not to Blog?
According to Wikipedia, "a blog (a contraction of the term "Web log") is a Web site, usually maintained by an individual [1], with regular entries of commentary, descriptions of events, or other material such as graphics or video. Entries are commonly displayed in reverse-chronological order. "Blog" can also be used as a verb, meaning to maintain or add content to a blog."
It is estimated that there are up to 200 million former blogger’s (they got bored) and 100 million active blogger’s. The site also claims that blogging has peaked as people get tired of writing stuff and the relevance of reading other blogs drops off.
So that got me to thinking. I have been doing this for a few months now and have received pretty steady results in page views and number of viewers.
Truth is, this does take a lot of time each day and if you were doing it you would want to know if it is worthwhile.
Is my blog about education, entertainment, editorial or a combo of all? Some like to read, some like to post. There are daily "posters", weekly "posters" and anonymous "posters." When I ask questions, I only get a few percentage of readers responding.
Regardless of what kind of "poster" you are today, please let it all out, step out of the box, and let the blog world know what topics interest you most and what you want to see more of and what you want to see less of. After all, the great thing about blogging is that is gives you freedom of expression with no ramifications. Blog away!
Happy Thursday!

I also enjoy the blog’s. A wide range of topics are key. It helps from getting “pigeon holed” in the same topics all the time. Larry, I think you are a very creative and relatable blogger. I look forward to reading the next day. I too envy the ease it seems you have at “whipping up” a good topic. So keep blogging(if you want to) I appreciate your efforts:)

I look forward to reading the blog everyday even though I only occasionally respond. I like reading about new beauty industry trends, salon issues and personal opinions. Trivia questions are fun also.

Please continue with the blog. I think it is interesting, informative and gives everyone the opportunity to voice thier opinion. I read it everyday.
Maybe we should advertise it in the magazine or do an email blast on it to get more hits from people outside the company to participate.
September 4th, 2008 at 11:11 am
I find it interesting that the amount of people who participate has dropped off since the inception, is it the topic selection or do people just get bored with blogging?
September 4th, 2008 at 11:18 am
According to your stats from Wikipedia people get bored with blogging at a 2 to 1 ratio so, like everything it will probably run its coarse and then slowly drift off to some far off place, like the typewriter and word processor!

I love blogging about current events, politics and other controversial subjects. I love blogs that ask for past experiences. I love not only giving my opinion, but reading others’ views. I really enjoy the blog and hope it doesn’t go away!!
I think blogging about something other then our actual industry gets people talking…

I don’t think the reason is bordem I think since we went live with the outside, people want to be professional and not get on and be to terribly silly, like we could when it was just us as a company blogging.
L.G. does have a creative way of writing and I look forward to reading when I can, work comes first then I read!!
Happy Thursday!:)

I am usually a reader and not a poster, but today the topic of conversation is Sarah Palin. It was quite a speech, very impressive. I was sitting on the fence with this election but now I might jump off and go in a certain direction. Now I am a registered democrat, so I might have some party loyalty. I also have voted for republican candidates in the past. Which way will I go?

I enjoy reading the blogs even though I only respond occasionally.
September 4th, 2008 at 5:01 pm
I enjoy reading the blogs also.. I may not always respond. But I try to give my input as much as I can. I think we haven’t been blogging as much becuase we do want the isight from our outside readers. I think that majority of the topics relate to us and salons. It would be great to see the outside salons contribute more since the idea of going live was for them to learn, contribute and grow. For us as the fellow employees and main bloggers we contribute where we can. Or at least that’s the way I see it. BUt your blogs are very much appreciated.

I enjoy your blogs on new products, what is new in the industry, economic conditions in Michigan. Keep up with blogs with these topics. I’ve been telling my salons about your blog. It will be nice to read more of customer views on these topics once it takes off.
