The Pedicure, A Woman’s Best Friend
Yet another reason why I am happy not to be a woman involves shoes. I went to Zappo’s after reading about the company in Business Week and decided to explore their selection of shoes.
I was disappointed. They only had 437 different types of shoes, 236,790 styles and colors to select from and 2,566,988 sizes within the different types. Oh, that was for open toe shoes only.
Now let’s face it. Guys have 6-8 pair of shoes and wear a couple of them until either the soles wear out or the wife throws them out. Girls on the other hand have 6-8 pair of each style and last I counted, there were more than 20 styles that were "must haves."
The most popular style remains the open toe or anything that exposes all ten toes. Naturally summertime is the peak season for these shoes and thank God for them because no woman would be caught dead wearing them without having their toes done.
The pedicure has become one of the most popular salon services of all time. Home pedicures are also as popular as ever and will remain so. Personally, I think someone’s toes reflects on the person’s overall image of themselves so I am always keen to engage in market research. I have seen natural toes, buffed toes, neon toes, polished toes, french manicure toes and everything else in-between.
Actually getting a pedicure is a good thing. It helps to prevent fungus and nail disorders and if one has diabetes, the elimination of cutting oneself. But let’s not downplay the true reason: it makes those shoes look better!
In case you were wondering, I enjoy a monthly pedicure and getting my nails buffed (the foot massage is the best part of it).
How about you? How time do you spend on your feet? And remember, pedicures are just one more reason that our industry is so great.
Happy Friday!

I think getting a pedicure may be my favorite spa service - especially during pregnancy! A good mani and pedi can change your whole day. I definately feel self concious if I have “bare naked” toes - that bothers me more than unpolished fingers.

I do my own pedicures at home..I had a bad experience so I just prefer to do them myself… except for when I was pregnant and could no longer bend that far to get to my toes
I would go to the cos. school I attented (pedicures are $5 for alumni) manly to just have them massage my ankles.. I agree LG.. that is the best part!!!
Happy Friday!!

I agree 100%! I absolutely LOVE Pedi’s! They are so relaxing and can completely change your mood. I don’t mind if I have clear polish on my fingers but my toes must be colored at all times. When the polish is off during my service, I can’t even believe that these are my toes…they look so completely different without polish! I am trying to treat myself to a Pedi a month because if you can’t spoil yourself, who else is going to?!
Have a great weekend everyone!

I’m in the minority here. I can’t stand for anyone to touch my feet. I’ve had two pedicures ever and was gripping the armchair in pain-NOT enjoying it at all. I want to do it but it hurts-yes hurts-not tickles me. I do however have to keep my toenails painted. Wish I could enjoy the massage part…

Spa Pedicures are a treat, but it’s my Sunday evening ritual at home, mani and pedi… I can’t stand not having my nails done. And of course I would never be caught dead leaving the house with my toes showing and not painted! Pedis and an obsession with shoes go hand in hand.

Guess what? Unfortunatley, I have NEVER had a professional pedicure in a salon/spa. I don’t know how it is. I know I need one and want one REALLY bad.
Hopefully I can get one for my birthday this year. I do love toe polish though but I do it myself.

Salon pedis are the best! I love when they spend a little extra time with the foot and lower leg massage. If you’ve never had one treat yourself. They are fantastic! Way better then a frickin cheeseburger. Are you serious? LOL
